Microsoft ADO.NET (Core Reference) (ISBN: 0-7356-1423-7)

Target Audience:

The Core Reference series targets software developers looking to develop professional mastery of a Microsoft technology. The book delivers definitive reference, supplemented by extensive hands-on coding examples, making it useful to both new and experienced developers.

About the Technology:

With the initial release of the.NET Framework, Microsoft introduced ADO.NET, the evolution of ActiveX® Data Objects (ADO) . Designed to natively support XML as well as traditional datasets, ADO.NET offered strongly typed, distributed data access and made extensive use of local data caching and open database connections. The resulting improvements in performance and scalability have provided a foundation on which to enhance future versions of ADO.NET. In the.NET Framework 2.0, data access is enhanced not only through the addition of new data access controls, services, and the ability to integrate more seamlessly with SQL Server 2005, but also through improvements to the ADO.NET class libraries themselves. These enhancements focus on ease-of-use, code reusability, and improved support for XML.

Microsoft Visual Studio® 2005 is the latest version of this widely used development system, with numerous feature enhancements and the latest version,2.0, of the Microsoft.NET Framework. With this development package, Windows developers have at their fingertips the ability to create smart-client applications, Web Services, and mobile or embedded programs, all in the same development environment. Version 2005 is not a minor change to Visual Studio: it is a significant advance, but it does not require retraining for developers already working with the.NET Framework. (Code doesn't 'break'.)
