About the Technology:
Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) is the foundation for all IT solutions that use security certificates, wireless networking, smart card authentication, VPNs, secure e-mail, Web SSL, EFS, and code-signing applications. IT professionals are faced with three choices; purchase costly PKI solutions from third-party companies, outsource PKI services at a considerable cost, or use the robust PKI and certificate-based security services that are already built into Windows Server 2003. Because Windows Server 2003 PKI offers certificate-based security solutions that are tightly integrated with Microsoft Windows® XP, Microsoft Office, and Active Directory, more IT professionals are turning to Windows-based PKI and Windows-based certificate services.
Until Windows Server 2003, there were no viable PKI or certificate-based security solutions other than very expensive programs from eTrust and RSA. There are currently no titles that compete directly with this book. The closest Windows book, written by the same author, is the MCSE Training Kit: Designing Network Security.
